Northwest? What Northwest?! It is SoCal here...

It is second heat wave in July! FYI - heat wave definition is at least 15F above average expected for this time of the year. And they said expected 85F for yesterday so in fact it should be around 70F…. and today morning the weather man showed map with L.A. at 79F. What the heck? I moved out from SoCal… or was is just a dream?

Zmiany klimatyczne? - Climate changes?

W końcu po 29 bezdeszczowych dniach czerwca zaczęło padać w deszczowym mieście! Czyżby był to kolejny przejaw zmian klimatycznych? Po długich mrozach i niespotykanych śniegach ostatniej zimy, teraz mamy suszę, która jeszcze nie doskwiera, ale jest już zauważalna.
With the end of June and after 29 dry days it finally rained! It was record number of days without rain in Seattle in this time of year! Is it ar sign of climate change? In winter we had unusual number of days with temperatures below/around 32F and there was unseen amount of snow in Seattle. Town was paralyzed and government was criticized for lack of preparedness for such situations.

Rododendrony (stanowy kwiat Waszyngtonu) już poprzekwitały, ale na szczęście są jeszcze alazie i inne lokalne kwiecie, które pięknie zdobi intensywnymi kolorami. Jest sporo maków i niezapominajek, a do tego róże kwitną w najróżniejszych kolorach. Kilka zdjęć z ogrodu botanicznego w Bellevue.
Rhododendrons (Washington State flower) are gone and only colorful petals on the ground suggest the color of gone flowers. They are amazing – big balls of flowers all over each bush with colors from white through pink to purple and red. Fortunately azaleas and other local flowers are still blooming with intense colors! There are a lot of poppy-seed flowers and forget-me-nots and on top of that there are the roses are blooming with various flowers. A few pictures from Bellevue Botanical Garden.

Skagit Valley, WA - 04/2008

W połowie kwietnia jest jeszcze kiepska pogoda, bo deszcz pada codziennie i choć czasami już słońce na chwilę przedziera się przez chmury, to temperatury niezbyt wysokie, wtedy zaczyna się Festiwal Tulipanów w Skagit Valley i pewne już jest, że wiosna przyjdzie. Ta nadzieja rozkwita gdy zobaczy się kwitnące pola - różnymi kolorami tulipanów i słonecznie żółtych żonkili aż po horyzont. Ludzie spragnieni kolorów i słońca, jadą całymi rodzinami za miasto, by te cuda natury obejrzeć. Po szarzyźnie zimy i deszczowym przedwiośniu tyle kolorów, słoneczna pogoda i wysoka temperatura w jednym miejscu to cud.
In mid April when the weather is still bad, as it was raining every day and the temperatures are not too high despite the sun getting through the clouds from time to time, then the Annual Tulip Festival starts in Skagit Valley, then you can be sure that spring will come. This hope grows even bigger when you see blooming fields with variety of colors of tulips and sunny yellow of daffodils long up to horizon line. People thirsty for colors and sun get into their cars with whole families and drive to the country to see these miracles. After gray winter and rainy early sprint so much color, sunny weather and high temperatures in one place - it is a miracle.

Pojechaliśmy i my zobaczyć ten co roku od nowa hodowany dziw natury. Wsiedliśmy do naszego kabriolecika, naciągneliśmy bejzbolówki głęboko na uszy żeby wiatr nie porwał, otworzyliśmy dach i było cudownie jechać tak sobie w słońcu i oglądać nowe tereny. Dojechaliśmy i rzeczywiście te pola w różnych kolorach obok siebie robią wrażenie!

So we went to see this annually grown miracle of nature also. We got into our little cabriole car, pulled on baseball hats not to lose it with the wind, opened the roof and hit the gas. It was wonderful to ride in such a sunny day and see new country. We arrived and saw these various color fields next to each other - it is impressive.

Kilka słów o Skagit Valley.
To miejsce osiedlenia holenderskich imigrantów. Przyjechawszy w te rejony, gdzie ziemia jest bardzo żyzna, postanowili robić to co umieją najlepiej – hodować kwiaty. W ten sposób powstało obecne zagłębie kwiatowe znane w wielu zakątkach świata i z sukcesem konkurujące z holenderskimi.

A few words about Skagit Valley:
It is valley where Dutch immigrants settled. Coming to this region with such a fertile soil, they decided to do what they knew best - grow flowers. In result the new flowerbelt was created and up-till-now it grows so much as to become known in many parts of the world and compete successfully with Dutch ones.
